Artist Statement

Abstract Artworks by Alessandro James Perriello

My abstract artwork is a balance of the subconscious and conscious. The imagery arises out of a subconscious, “waking-state” of day dream and inspiration, along with random experimentation leading to the picture’s theme and design. It’s an energized, intellectual and emotional, way of moving around the composition until it feels at peace within the frame. Creating abstract art for me is also fairly physical: I find myself standing more than sitting, moving from one place to another, selecting new materials, confidently applying broad brushes strokes, splatter, or laying papers on-top of each other, making prints.

The result is an aesthetic of itself, apart from any specific “picture-of-something”; however, it feels true, universal, but the only way it can become a completed piece is to embrace some personal experience within it. It’s a relationship I have with the artwork, conversations taking place within myself.

Once the work is finished, it may be subjective to the viewer – a suggestion of a feeling, recollection, or a conceptual reference and symbolism. In this way, the viewer can be part of the creation. I like making things that engage and inspire others.
